Coaching Requirements

The following will detail everything that must be completed to be rostered as a coach for the 2023-2024 season.

1. USA Hockey Registration:
2. Annual registration.
3. You will receive an electronic copy of your registration from USA Hockey. Keep this number handy!
4. USA Hockey SafeSport Certification:
5. A 90-minute video with tests.
6. The Safe Sport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for twelve (12) months beginning on 4/1/22
7.  Safesport is now a yearly requirement and consists of a core course followed by three refresher courses. Every fourth year one must take the core course again.
8. USA Hockey Background Screen:
9. Registration fee - $30.
10. You must submit a new background screening every two years. If you are unsure if you need to complete it, please ask the Registrar. 
11. Background screening is done through NCSI and takes an average of 10 - 14 business days to be completed.
12. You will not be able to be placed on a roster or coach until the screening is complete.
13. USA Hockey has already entered your self-registration ID number on the first page of the screen. You do not need to change this number.  
14. Online Concussion Training:
15. Annual certification with no cost. You must have this completed before you can be added to any roster. You will receive a certificate and email confirmation.
16. USA Hockey Age-Specific Modules:
17. These modules are available in August. One time requirement per module.
18. New modules
19. 8&Under
20. 12&Under
21. 13&Over
22. For instance, a coach with an existing 10U module would be eligible to coach at 10U without taking the new module. However if the same coach now wants to coach 12U they will need to complete the new 12&Under module.
23. USA Hockey Coaching Education Program Clinic:
24. This must be completed by December 15.
25. CEP courses will be offered in person and virtually. You can take a virtual course offered by any state.
